Nikon Digital Camera Bag
Nikon has a few camera models which we'll go over briefly to have an idea about them. Basically you will find 3 major classes of cameras:
- film cameras
- compact digital cameras
- dslr cameras
Film Cameras. They're for avid photographers mostly. There is an intrinsic charm to film photography, but it's definitely less practical and much more expansive than digital photography. That being said it's hard nowadays to come by an old school case, although not impossible. My suggestion would be to use the internet for any leather case from Nikon. For the sake of the good looks and class you can find a pre-owned one.
Compact cameras. For that small point and shoot cameras there's a great selection of camera pouches to choose from. By far my favorite brand would be Crumpler, because they do not released any dull designs. Try to consider that the next time you want to purchase a camera pouch.
Depending on what you are searching for the camera bag to complete for your camera you may consider 'camera sleeves' too. They're small and offer very little protection against bumps, but on the other hand should you only need to protect your camera from scratches and intend on carrying it in a purse or perhaps a bigger bag, than camera sleeves may be precisely what you need. Additionally a nice feature to consider when purchasing a camera sleeve is the wrist band, that allows you to carry the camera attached to your arm, causing you to an instant tourist. Lovely. As side benefits to that tourist look they provide you with, the camera sleeves tend to be more comfortable and fewer bulky than any other camera carrier.
For more practical features and even more protection choose camera bags or camera pouches as they are called in a weird circle of friends. These babies often provide you with more protection and much more room for accessories. On the flip side obviously they are bulkier compared to camera sleeves, and price a little bit more. The items you should look for when purchasing continue to be a wrist band (and/or belt strap, though this really is definitely not my style) that makes it easier to carry around, water proofing and last but not least design. The big four in camera bag manufacturing, meaning: Tamrac, Lowepro, Crumpler and Kata will of course offer you just about everything I've mentioned previously, and they are really high quality materials, thus providing your camera pouch with a longer lifespan than the camera inside.
Some Nikon Coolpix designs include a lens that stands apart of the camera, and for those I recommend you go with the camera pouches.
Next out there are camera bags, or just put just "slr camera bags". This is where you really start paying attention to what you really are getting. Basically if you have one camera body that you take with you and a lens or two, opt for this option. When i mention prior to the big 4 is what I suggest you choose, the majority of their slr camera bags are waterproof have a shoulder strap, and a handle so they are simple to carry around and also have enough room for accessories. The main issue here is to obtain a camera bag that matches what you need to carry and also you may want to think ahead for future investments in lenses, because it would be a bummer 6 months down the road to get another lens and then have to compromise between lenses when a weight trip or on the project. Also you might want to think about the quantity of accessories you'll take along. The fundamental bag has enough room that you should fit an additional battery, an extra card, some filters and that's about this. If you are like me you are able to hear a thousand angels singing without anyone's knowledge while you read this. The camera backpacks are the epitome of photography mobility as they say. Some backpacks can fit so much equipment that by the time you zip up the last zipper you understand you could trade that backpack with everything in it for a European luxury car. Again, Crumpler felt the requirement to stick out also it did it very well. Crumpler backpacks really are a bit smaller than typically the most popular models from Tamrac and Lowepro, but that provides a really important advantage which can be vital (a minimum of for the photo equipment) once the need arises. And I'm talking here about Crumpler meeting the flight regulations for carry-on luggage, meaning you will not have to trust anybody to handle your precious camera apart from yourself. If you have let's say a D300 with the 70-200mm and a couple other lenses plus accessories, forget about slr camera bags and just go straight to shoulder slr bag or the backpacks. My friendly suggestion would be to opt for a camera backpack because it's going to be less strain on your back.
