Where can I find if it's safe to travel to Jordan & Syria this March 2011?
I going to Turkey and I would like to check if there are still riots in Egypt (as there are now, Feb 2011) before going to Syria and Jordan. Mainly, I would like to visit Aleppo in Syria and Amman in Jordan (of course Petra and the Dead Sea as well, in Jordan).
Besides the newspapers, are there any websites that can inform travelers about security issues related to the place they want to travel?
I would appreciate your quick response! Will depart to Morocco this Feb 19!
Thank you for your time, in advance.
If you are an American citizen, they you can register with the Department of State and they will email you travel advisories and security concerns for the countries that you heading to. I think it is called the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). You can do it online and it only takes about 15 minutes. If you are not a American citizen, then your country may have a similar service under the Foreign Ministry or whatever it is.
You can also check the State Department's website for country specific information. They post travel alerts and warnings fairly regularly, so you can check online if you don't want to register or if you can't. While some of the information is aimed specifically towards Americans, the rest can be useful for any foreign citizen enter said country. The following link should take you there:

Hope this helps.
