Historical Records On The 1950s Clothing Styles: How War, Peace And The Economy Influenced 1950s Fashion

Despite our age, many people remember the special 1950s clothing styles, mainly from popular Tv shows, for example 'I Love Lucy', 'Leave it to Beaver' and 'Lassie. The key unique of this decade of fashion was the wide, below the knee skirts and Prom dresses, comprised of yards and yards of material not seen on the fashion picture since Victorian times. A lot fabric! Adornments of lace and other big clippings to border and sleeves were also normal enhancements. These clothes were the height of fashion and held up in acceptance for a complete decade.

Ever thought about how and why fashion developers produce a constantly modifying collection of clothing designs that differ through the year and season with respect to color and detailing? The fundamental designs provide women with a new carry on their fashion appearance, while color and detailing serve to tag your clothing as stylish and up to date or aged and fashion-unconscious. Girls pay the closest attention to the caprice and trends put together by fashion designers. Males do notice what their girls put on, making us pretty much at the whim for this fashion industry.

To this day, the 1950s clothing styles are still to be found, rapid selling items in the retro and vintage attire shops an internet-based auctions for instance eBay. So why did the 50s fashion designs live through so long?

While in the Great Depression years, fashion designers could ill pay the large amounts of material  necessary for the big, moving skirts and expensive detailing - beads, slim satin trims and slender lines were common and low-priced. During World War II, rationing prolonged even into clothes. There was a successful blackmarket for silk tights. Following World War II, immediately after over 2 decades of these svelte, but economical fashions, women were greater than ready for something different and designers were happy to accommodate their wishes. From the post World War II era, 50s fashions stepped from the slimmer cuts, necessitated by rationing of many goods, including fabrics. Outfit jewelry fit in properly with the more casual 50s styling, not costing an arm and a leg, yet adding a fun, bright highlight to almost any costume.

Wide skirts and puffy sleeves designed a reappearance to the enthusiastic audience of shoppers. The four or five yards of fabric needed for the 1950s clothing styles became the mark of the well dressed woman, no longer confined to the simplicity on the designs of the 1930s and 1940s. Bodices were adorned with pleating, adornments as well as laces, while skirts sported cute appliques - remember the 'Poodle' skirt? Coats and knit tops underwent the same transformation, using the so-called car coat and Perry Como sweaters all the rage.

Nevertheless, the 1950s outfits style did finally reduce into fashion record, giving method to the revolutionary 60s styles - knee-high boots, midi-length skirts and Prom dress, padded peasant blouses and tassle leather and suede coats. In the end, designers need to have us revise our own closets - or else, exactly where would these people be?
