Passport - Slight Water Damage?
I am starting the process of renewing my passport, and I have some slight water damage on it from jumping into the pool with it in my pocket (stupid, I know). According to the department of state website, I can submit a renewal form by mail if the original passport is "undamaged and can be submitted with your application." The photo page is fine and legible, but some pages are a little wrinkled. It was in a leather type holder at the time, which helped from it being completely water damaged. I'm hoping, worst case scenario, that it will be rejected and returned, and I can go in person to apply.
If they replace your passport with a new one, slight water damage will not be a problem.
If they would extend your current passport for a new period, they will likely not want to do that if it looks less than perfect. In any case, it can not hurt to send it in, as if it is rejected you can apply again.
If you can show your passport to a knowledgeable person, like someone in the post office who checks applications, (as you do not tell which country, I have no way of knowing whether they do it for you,) ask before you send it in.
