New CD player wouldn't work, now stock radio won't work either?
Recently I bought a Sony CD player (with AUX input) for my 1994 Dodge Spirit. Not knowing much myself on how to install stereos, I had my friend (who has done a few of them in the past) try to hook it up. We went to Walmart and bought the mounting kit specific for my car, as well as the wiring adapter for my car. Yesterday we spent 4 hours trying to put it in, but reguardless that all the wires were connected and the CD player was grounded it still wouldn't turn on. Deciding I should let Circuit City put it in, I took the Sony one out and put the stock one back in (hooking everything back up just like it was when I took it out). Now my stock radio won't turn on either though. What is causing all this?
(Also, I checked my fuses and the one for my dome lamp strangely blew, but my radio one is fine. Do these have anything to do with each other?)
As a Dodge electrical technician of 19 yrs, I could write an Encyclopaedia on some of the stupid things I have seen customers & radio shops do to factory wiring, and then the customer comes in wanting things repaired "Under Warranty". LOLOL!!
The best advice I can give you is Never just LOOK at a fuse to see if it's good. Either use a multi meter or test light to test 'both sides' for voltage. Chances are your dome light fuse blew during your radio installation because that is the same circuit that sends constant battery voltage to the radio so the radio's clock can keep time when the key is off. The rest I can't tell you without looking at it, but I'd =BET= I'd find the problem in way less than 5 minutes.
Oh, and remember.... all mechanic's base their charges NOT on what they do or how long it takes them, but their KNOWLEDGE.
