travelling by air and taking my gold jewellry in the checked luggage is it a problem?
my freind told me to wear the jewellry I need to take cause if took it will be a problem is that right or can I take it in my luggage should I pay customs for it?
Never pack anything that you care about losing. In fact, I suggest that you think twice about taking jewelry at all.
The odds are good that your luggage will arrive without any problem. However, airlines do sometimes lose bags. And, unscrupulous airport employees sometimes go through checked bags to see if there is anything worth stealing.
Airlines have specified limits on reimbursements and specifically exclude valuables. If you must do this, go to the airline's website and check their lost baggage policy. It will explain the maximum amount that they will pay for, whether valuables are excluded, and whether extra insurance is available (at extra cost, of course).
Wearing it is a hassle as well. You may set off the metal detectors at the security check and have to take it off. That will make you real popular with the people in line behind you (sarcasm intentional).
And, you run the risk that it could be stolen if you leave it in your hotel room. Hotels will not accept responsibility for valuables left in your room. Make sure that your hotel has a safe where you can lock the jewelry away when you're not wearing it.
I was once a travel agent and always advised my customers to leave the valuables at home unless they didn't care about losing them. If you must take it, pack it in your carry-on bag. Don't put it in your checked luggage and don't wear it through airport security.
